Penggaram Square is the town square of Dataran Penggaram is one of the most important historical sites in Batu Pahat .It marks the name of the town of Batu Pahat . The town square hosts all the important festivals including National Day ,Chinese New Year and Hari Raya. On regular days , it is the fun gathering spot for locals and tourists. It is an open area (field) in the middle of the town.

You can spend the day with your friends and family or even alone , here. You will find people cycling , exercising , taking a run or just walking around the area , exploring the local food stalls and street food , souvenir shops and the local market . You can often spot people even having a picnic and other family events during the weekends. It is beautifully lit up in the evening and provides a busy yet relaxed atmosphere.

HISTORY

Legend says that name of the town , Batu Pahat has been derived from the ‘chiseled rock’ situated at the entrance of the Batu Pahat river that lies near the town square of Dataran Penggaram , that was dug by the Siamese soldiers after they lost the attack on Malacca .The Batu Pahat town is also known as Bandar Penngaram (the town of salt –makers).
