Batumi Central Masjid

Batumi Mosque, Batumi Overview

Completed in 1886, the mosque is an architectural gem, featuring a distinctive Ottoman design with elegant minarets. The mosque has a separate praying section for women. It serves as a place of worship for the local Muslim community and is a bit crowded on Fridays because of the Jummah prayers. The mosque welcomes people from all religion, but following the dress code and wearing clothes with full body coverage is essential.

It is also popularly known as “Jamia in the Middle” due to its former positioning between two mosques that no longer exist. It is a big rectangular white-colored building with a tall tower in one corner and a large shiny dome in the middle. The east entrance of the mosque is richly decorated. The mosque's roof is made of wood and is supported by four round pillars. The ceiling, dome, and railings are all painted with colorful patterns. The nearby Turkish restaurants that serve halal food offer some good refreshment options.
