Kahlur Fort or Kot-Kahlur is a majestic structure built about 3600 feet above sea level in the district of Bilaspur. Bilaspur was initially was known as Kahlur, a princely state during the British era. The ruins of the fort are a well-known attraction on the Naina Devi Dhar/Hill a little distance away from the Ganguwal Hydroelectric plant. The fort served as a palace as well for the King of Bilaspur, Raja Bir Chand who ruled between 697 and 730 CE. Due to its proximity to Bilaspur, it is often visited by picnickers. History lovers and architecture freaks are sure to find the fort breathtaking.
Kahlur Fort is an ancient structure entirely made of stone. A little imagination can make a simple tour through the ruins of the fort a memorable experience. The enormous entrance, the pathways, the corridors and the stone staircases of the two-storey ancient structure are just captivating. The view from the top of the fort is just mind-stirring.
