Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham Overview

Cannon Hill Park is a premier public park located next to Edgbaston Cricket Ground in South Birmingham, England. Spanning over an area of 250 acres, this gem of a park also comprises of conservation area and 5 acres of woodland plantation called 'RSPB Centenary Plantation'. Canon Hill Park Fun Pass

To enjoy the rides at Canon Hill Park, the Fun Pass has to be purchased. It is a ticket-pass that one must top-up with credits. It can be used at Fun Park, Swan Lake Boating and Golden Putter Mini Golf

The prices are EUR 1 - 1 credit, EUR 10 - 12 credits, EUR 20 - 26 credits and EUR 40 - 56 credits.

The ride prices are 2 credits (per car) - Bumper Cars, 1.5 credits - Roller Coaster, Other rides - 2 credit.

Fun Park
The Fun Park has some amazing rides including Turbo Bugs, Circus Circus Tower Ride, FunLand Express, Spinning Coaster, Hill Billy Railway Train Ride and Frozen Swing Ride. Parents can accompany kids at some of these rides while the others have height restrictions. 

Land Train
To get the most of the beautiful views of the park, hop on to the Land Train for a round tour. The train stops at all the attractions in the park. It also has a wheelchair accessible coach.

Swan Lake Boating
Nothing can be more romantic than spending time on the lake, pedalling a beautiful white Swan Boat in the gorgeous park setup. Available in 2 and 4 seat capacity, these boats are in par with the highest safety standards. A life jacket is provided to ensure maximum safety in this 30-minute ride.

Golden Putter Mini Golf
This 36-hole mini golf course is perfect for a fun time with friends and family. The twists and turns and water traps make the game more exciting. Also, the golf course is wheel-chair accessible.

Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park
A must-visit place for animal lovers, the conservation park houses adorable varieties of animals from the prettiest wading birds to the cutest red pandas. It is actually a zoo which is home to a large number of species like otters, meerkats, European Lynx, lemurs, Rhinoceros Rat Snake, guinea pigs, wallabies, tamarins, sheep, goats, Yellow Breasted Capuchin Monkeys and many more.

Sports
Cannon Hill Park is a great place for fishing which is allowed during the open season. The park is a lovely place for a walking and jogging along the 2 kilometers and 5 kilometers long walking route. The park is also quite popular among cyclists. It also has tennis courts complete with floodlights for sports enthusiasts. The Edgbaston Priory Club provides coaching lessons as well.

Park Run
Every Saturday at 9:00 AM, a 5 kilometer park-run is held in which around 500-750 runners take part. For kids aged 4 - 14 years, a 2 kilometer park run is held every Saturday at 9:00 AM.

Features

  • The western edge of Canon Hill Park features a Grade-ll listed granite and bronze memorial unveiled in 1906. It is dedicated to the dead of the Second Boer War.
  • The Golden Lion Inn is a Grade-ll listed 16th century timber house currently in a dilapidated condition.
  • Unveiled in 1924, there's another memorial in the memory of Scouts who laid their lives in the 1st and 2nd World War.
  • In 2019, two more memorials were unveiled by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex commemorating the 30 victims of the 2015 Sousse Attacks and the other commemorating the victim of the 2015 Bardo National Museum Attack.
  • There's a Japanese garden near the MAC with a model of  the Elan Valley Reservoirs in the form of ornamental pools.

Tips

  • To grab a snack or enjoy a drink, Cannon Hill Park has these 3 eating options: Bridges Cafe at MAC, Arena Bar at MAC, and Garden Tea Room located near the Russell Road entrance. The timings are 5:00 PM - 8:15 PM on weekdays and 12 noon - 8:15 PM on weekends.
  • There is also a kiosk at the Fun Park.
  • Toilet facility including disabled toilets are available near the Edgbaston Road car park.

How To Reach Cannon Hill Park

Canon Hill Park has three entrances: Russell Road, Edgbaston Road and Pershore Road.

Bus
  • Bus No. 1 departs from Five Ways. The route is Edgbaston - Moseley - SprungField - Hall Green - Acordes Green. It stops at the park pedestrian entrance on Edgbaston Road.
  • Bus No. 35 departs from City Centre and follows the route Balsall Heath Moseley - Kings Heath - Hawkesley. It stops just around the corner from the park pedestrian entrance, on Willows Road.
  • Bus No. 45 departs from City Centre and stops at Pershore Road via the route HighGate - Selly Park - Cotteridge. The stop is located at just a 5-minute walking distance from the park.
  • Bus No. 47 makes its way via City Centre - Highgate - Selly Park - Cotteridge - West Heath - pRednal. It stops at Pershore Road. The park is just a 5-minute walking distance from here.
  • Bus No. 61 follows the route City Centre - Selly Oak - Northfield - Frankley. It stops near the traffic lights of Priory Road/ Bristol Road.  The stop is just a 5-minute walk from the park.
  • Bus No. 63 departs from City Centre via Selly Oak - Northfield - Longbridge - Rubery - Frankley. It stops near the traffic lights of Priory Road/ Bristol Road.  The stop is just a 5-minute walk from the park.
Car Park
There are 3 car parks available here - the Queens Ride car park at MAC, Pershore Road car park next at Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park and the Russell Road car park. They open daily at 7:00 AM. Queens Ride car park and Russell Road Car Park close at 11:30 PM while the Pershore Road car park closes at 6:00 PM. The fees is £2.20 - up to 4 hours and £3.30  - up to 16.5 hours.
The car parks are equipped with spaces for the disabled.
