MAMbo - Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna is a museum of modern and contemporary art in Bologna. It features art created after the end of WWⅡ and is frequently updated by the art of the present times. It also houses the Morandi Museum.
Homage to the Hollywood Squares (featuring Bridget Riley), a tapestry by Francesco Vezzoli, is one of the well-known artworks here. Some noteworthy artists include Marina Abramovic e Ulay, Gina Pane, Hermann Nitsch, Gianni Colombo, Luigi Ontani, Enrico Castellani, Giovanni Korompay and Antoni Tàpies. MAMbo was a part of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Bologna, founded in 1925. It later took its own identity as a separate museum. The art here focuses on 9 different modern themes—Art and Ideology, 1968 I new perspectives, 1968 II Arte Povera, 1977 Art and Action, Forma I, The Informal, Arcangeli, Focus on Contemporary Italian Art, and New Acquisitions. It also houses the Morandi Museum, which has the skilled Giorgio Morandi’s paintings and sketches on display. MAMbo also hosts temporary art exhibits.
