Bat Caves, Boracay Overview

Another thing really famous about Boracay is its extraordinary bat caves. Over the years, nature has formed several bat caves on the island which come out at sunset and cover the skies with their black wings. Located at the western end of the island, the cave can be reached through a short hike through the forest. The breed of bats inhabiting these caves are called "the golden flying fox" or "the Philippine flying fox" and have a 1.2-meter (4-foot) wingspan. They feast on nectar, insects, fruits and flowers etc. They present a spectacular sight for the visitors and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in all of Boracay. Aside from this, you should also visit the inside of the caves and check out the stalactites on the roof of the caves.

Tips

  1. The floor of the caves is really slippery. It is advisable to wear comfortable footwear like shoes and slippers. Do not wear heels.
  2. Carry a flashlight as the caves tend to get really dark at night.
  3. It is also advisable to get a guide alongside.
  4. Keep clear off and watch for snakes and other creatures inside the caves. Make sure you do not step on one.
  5. Some caves have pools at the bottom which are connected to the sea. Make sure you wear a full scuba diving suit before you indulge in swimming in any one as the current in the sea might be really strong.
  6. Remember to carry a bottle of water with you.
  7. It is advisable to wear a hat to steer clear of bird droppings.

How to Reach

There are two ways to reach the Bat Caves. You can either reach here in a rental boat or through a dirt road after a short trek. You can enter the cave at the mouth and then descent down a few rock boulders.
