Established in 1996, under the auspice of Massachusetts Budhi Sikha Society, by Kuan Yen the Thousand Buddha Temple derives its name because of more than a thousand Buddha statues that encircle the meditation Hall. Each of the thousand statues represents the participants who invested their time and money in building the temple. The statues also signify the Buddha-nature of the participants and serve as inspirational models for the practitioners.
The ritual life of the Thousand Buddha Temples includes practices like chanting, meditation, and Dharma Talks. The temple is a host of more than a thousand members, with a majority of devotees from China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, and other South Asian Countries. The temple celebrates several big occasions annually like the Buddha’s Birthday, Chinese New Year, and many more and also sends out newsletters to its members quarterly to keep the members posted of their events and activities.
