Primate's Palace

Primacial Palace, Bratislava Overview

The Primate's Palace (Primaciálny palác) is a neoclassical architectural gem located in the heart of Bratislava's Old Town, at Primate Square. Constructed between 1778 and 1781 for Archbishop József Batthyány, the palace is renowned for its elegant neoclassical architecture and pink façade, along with the serene courtyard featuring a St. George fountain. It is most famous for its Hall of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Pressburg (1805) was signed, marking a significant historical event that concluded the War of the Third Coalition after the Battle of Austerlitz.

Visitors can explore the Hall of Mirrors, five salons adorned with period furniture, and a collection of six rare English tapestries from the 17th century depicting the tragic love story of Hero and Leander. These tapestries were discovered behind a wall during a reconstruction in 1903.
