Located on the Breakfast Creek bank of the Brisbane river, the Newstead House is one of the oldest surviving houses in the northern suburb of Newstead. It was built in 1846 as a small cottage in the Colonial-Georgian style. It was later furnished in the Late Victorian style after extending and painting its original infrastructure. Along with the substation and Newstead Park, Newstead House was entered into the Queensland Heritage Register in October 1992. It is currently undergoing refurbishments, after which it is likely to reopen as a house museum again.
