With a length of around 344 m, the Brisbane river is the longest river flowing into the city of Brisbane in Queensland. It empties into Moreton Bay on the coral sea. The Wivenhoe Dam on the river forms Lake Wivenhoe, the sole water supply of Brisbane. Ferry services along the river started in 1843, with steamer services beginning in 1846. The first-ever bridge across was completed in 1865.
One of the ways to explore the city of Brisbane is by walking down the Brisbane riverwalk that stretches along for pedestrians and cyclists from the New Farm area and ends at Howard St Wharves.
