Istana Nurul Iman, Brunei Overview

Istana Nurul Iman is famous for holding the Guinness World Record of being the largest palace and royal residence in the world’ (according to floor space). It is the residence of the Sultan of Brunei and his family and is located near the Brunei River near Bandar Seri Begawan.

Translating to ‘Palace of the Light and Faith’, Istana Nurul Imans is known for its exquisite architecture. The palace is also of political and diplomatic importance as it serves as the seat of the Government of Brunei.

Istana Nurul Iman can hold more than 11,000 people at once and is said to be one of the most expensive palaces ever built as well. The palace is also of cultural significance as it holds one of the biggest celebrations of Eid al-Fitr every year for three consecutive days, which is the only time the general public is allowed to enter the palace.
