Located in the Tutong District of Brunei, the Tasek Merimbun is the largest natural lake in Brunei. At a distance of about 70 kilometres from the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, the lake is surrounded by a 7800-hectare Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park.
The lake is in the shape of an ‘S’ and is connected to the main island via a wooden footbridge. This area was declared as an ASEAN heritage site back in 1984 owing to the rare flora and fauna inhabiting the area. The Tasek Merimbun beholds the water from the streams of river Sungai Meluncur and Sungai Bang Oncom. The water of the lake is blackish in colour owing to the fact that the water moves through woodlands loaded with peat.
