Faust Wine Cellar, Budapest Overview

Located under Castle Hill, is the historic Faust Wine cellar offering a variety of Hungarian wine as well as the traditional pálinka, tapas, and Hungarian scones! The entrance to this magical wine cellar from the middle ages is inside the Hilton Budapest Hotel.

With an underground ‘city’ structured in the form of labyrinths and catacombs, the Faust Wine Cellar in the Buda Castle district offers a wide selection of the finest Hungarian wine. The way to the cellar is through the stairs leading down from the 13th century Dominican Cloister ruins which were incorporated into the famous Hilton Budapest Hotel later. This little wine cellar has a calm ambience which gives out the feel of medieval times and caters to the guests with the finest wine available in the country.

Reservations for Faust Wine Cellars

Tables for wine tasting can be reserved by sending a mail to '[email protected]' atleast a few days in advance. During holidays, make sure to make reservations well in advance as the demand for tables rises.

Wine Tasting at the Faust Wine Cellars

Hungarian wines have a vibrant history, right from the times of the Romans, with names difficult to pronounce and wines challenging to find. Faust Wine Cellar hosts its guests in wine tasting sessions with the cellar manager and sommelier as the host. The choice of wine can be made from the host’s selection of six or nine wines from areas like Szekszárd, Villány, Tokaj and Eger whose locations are pointed out to you on the map of Hungary by the sommelier himself. Along with the wines, you are served with tapas, cheese, meats and Hungarian speciality scones to satisfy your taste buds. So if you are into wine history and need a place to relax while in Budapest, Faust wine cellar is the place for you. However, before you decide to give this place a try, get a table reserved as this place is almost always full.

By Bus: You can take Bus number 16 from Clark Adam ter till Szentharomsag ter, and walk for about 2 minutes to reach this cellar.
