Known as the heaviest birds in Australia and second heaviest in the world, Cassowaries are native to Australia and New Guinea, most commonly found in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area near Cairns, Queensland, as well as in other parts of far north Queensland. They are iconic and unique species that are found nowhere else in the world and important part of the country's natural heritage, protected by law in many areas. They are also a popular attraction for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
