Pyramids of Giza, Cairo Overview

The Pyramids of Giza are the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu and the largest Egyptian pyramid, located in the Giza Plateau or Giza Complex. They are also the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The plateau is a collection of 3 main pyramids and 6 other small pyramids and the Sphinx.

Pyramids and Sphinx: There are two entrances to the Complex. The Pyramids of Giza consist of three main pyramids: the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure. These colossal structures are ancient, built over 4,500 years ago. There are 6 other small pyramids that stand as funeral homes for mothers, children, and wives of the pharaohs. Guarding these funeral home sanctuaries is the Sphinx, which is line-bodied, faced like a pharaoh, and presumably the most praised landmark in Cairo.

Entering the Pyramids: For an additional fee, visitors have the opportunity to venture inside one of the pyramids. The Great Pyramid of Khufu offers the most immersive experience, allowing you to explore the narrow passageways and chambers deep within its core. While inside, you'll feel the grandeur of the King's Chamber and the mysterious empty sarcophagus.

Panoramic Point: To capture panoramic views of the entire Giza Plateau and its surrounding pyramids, head to Panoramic Point, located on the left of Entrance 1. From this vantage point, you'll get a glimpse of a breathtaking vista of six of the nine pyramids.

Valley Temple: Adjacent to the Sphinx lies the Valley Temple, an ancient structure that played a significant role in the mummification process of King Khafre.

Sound and Light Show: Experience the Pyramids of Giza in a different light with the Sound and Light Show. Each evening, the Sphinx and the pyramids are illuminated in a dazzling display of colors, accompanied by a narration that brings the site's history to life.
