Cathedral de Santa Ana, Canary Islands Overview

Cathedral de Santa Ana is a twin towered Cathedral located in the city of Gran Canaria. With beautiful architectural style, it always mesmerizes its visitors. It houses various Spanish paintings and sculptures in its compound.

The twin-towered Santa Ana Cathedral in Gran Canaria is situated in the heart of the city. The first church in the Canary Islands, it was built by King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I of Castile after the town was conquered in 1478. The main construction started around 1500 and it took almost four hundred years to complete it. There are three basic architectural styles used to build the Cathedral, Gothic, Neoclassical and Renaissance. A few remarkable pieces of art are still found in the Cathedral, including a lot of statues. Most of the famous statues were sculpted by Jose Lujan Perez.
