Situated in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the museum houses the most extensive collection of pre-Hispanic objects from the Canary Islands dating back to 500 BC. It is an archaeological museum with many artifacts, including statues of gods, pottery, jewelry, tools, skeletons, mummies, and other unique artifacts.
A scientific and cultural society, Museo Canario was founded in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by Dr. Gregorio Chil y Naranjo and historian Agustin Millares Torres. Museo Canario was founded in 1879 by a small group of people of the local bourgeoisie. The museum is spread over 11 rooms and there in a permanent exhibition in each one of them. An extensive library on the archives is also there in the museum which can be easily accessed by students, teachers, researchers and general public.
