Pyramids of Guimar

Located in Chacona district of Guimar town in Tenerife are the Pyramids of Guimar. They are a group of six-stepped lava stone pyramids constructed without using mortar. A guided trip that includes a stop at the Ethnographic Park allows visitors to explore the pyramids.

Initially believed to be nothing more than a collection of stones, it has now been learned that the pyramids were deliberately constructed with an amazing amount of accuracy, with many of the stones exactly fitting together. Given their resemblance to stepped pyramids discovered in Mexico and Peru, several experts have hypothesized that the pyramids may have been constructed by prehistoric American societies. Others think that they might have been built by the native Guanche people who lived on the Canary Islands before the Spanish arrived. Visitors to the location can also tour the Ethnographic Park, which has exhibits on the history and traditions of the Guanche people, as well as a botanical garden with native plant species, in addition to the pyramids.
