Gulsehir, Cappadocia Overview

Situated on the southern bank of the Red River (Kizilirmak), just 20 kilometers from Nevşehir, Gulsehir is a town known particularly for Gulsehir Aciksaray archaeological site or the Open Palace Museum. It features remarkable mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys and a variety of caves, including multi-story underground cities from ancient times. It is free to enter.

Another significant landmark in Gulsehir is the St. Jean Church, also known as Karşı Kilise. This two-storied church, dating back to 1212, features a wine cellar, graves, water channels, and living quarters on the lower floor. The upper floor houses a church adorned with Biblical scenes. Among other notable structures are the Boğalı Church, the Backgammon, the Küçük Saray settlement, the Four Column Monastery, the Twelve Column Church, and the Staircase House. Gülşehir offers a long hiking trail from the valley in the archaeological site to Çat Town. This trail provides an excellent opportunity to capture exclusive photo frames and immerse oneself in the serene beauty of the landscape.
