Uchisar Castle, Cappadocia Overview
Situated at the highest point in the Cappadocia region, Uchisar Castle is well-known for its panoramic views. It is a short trek from the towns of Uchisar or Goreme and it takes about 120 steps to climb up to the castle. It overlooks the famous fairy chimneys, Pigeon Valley, Goreme, Mt. Erciyes and other tourist sites around. The castle is also an ideal spot for catching the magnificent sunset.
It is the best spot for viewing Cappadocia and the most beautiful walking path. This castle offers a view of Avanos, Cavusin, and Ortahisar, as well which are among the most popular attractions. Uchisar Castle was previously used for defence purposes during the Byzantine and then Ottoman empires. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is shaped like a cylindrical tower and is full of rooms, tunnels and passages inside, most of which are almost impossible to enter.
