Lakulish Temple

Lakulisa temple, Champaner Overview

Lakulisa temple sits calmly atop the Pavagadh hill. This temple dates back to the 10th century and was constructed by Lakulisa, who was the founder of Pashupata Shaivism which was one of the oldest and prominent Shaivite schools.

Lakulisa temple mainly lies in ruins now, one can notice how the intricate sculptures of Dakshinamurthy Shiva, Ganesha and Gajantaka Shiva are very prominent in this temple. Most of the upper half of the temple has fallen off, though what remains back of this ancient temple still gives one an idea of the exquisite Hindu architectural techniques.
