If you are fond of straying away from the usual mainstream tourist spots, you will choose Champawat. And if you're even more into the rustic exploration of the land where religion and spirituality culminate and originate for the rest of the country, you will visit Kranteshwar Mahadev.
At a distance of about 6 kms from the district centre of Champawat, the temple is a small complex of stone made structures, and is locally known as the Kandev or Kurmapad. It is atop a hill at a height of 6000 meters, so you may want to be ready for a mini trek to it. What is more interesting, is the ever blooming red blossoms in the temple complex which provide a one of its kind visual treat. The panoramic view of the temple is simply majestic and worth your trip outside the town. it is the only picturesque temple of big religious significance in the locality perched on top of a hill, offering the most breathtaking sceneries.
