Gouverneto Monastery is a historic Greek Orthodox monastery nestled on the northern side of the Akrotiri peninsula in Crete, located just 19 kilometers from Chania. One of the oldest monasteries on the island, It is known for its unique Venetian fort-like architecture, featuring sturdy towers at each corner of its walls.
The monastery consists of main church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, boasts a striking façade adorned with intricate sculptures and decorative elements influenced by Renaissance, Mannerist, and Baroque styles. It showcases a stunning exterior with intricate carvings in church's walls, including unique face-pulling masques.
Other Important Objective Information : Group visitations are not allowed. Appropriate clothing is expected.
