Chanthaburi's beloved King Taksin's shrine and the city pillar are worth a visit.
The Taksin shrine, a nine-sided structure with a roof in the shape of a hat that the King used to wear, was built in 1920. Many locals make offerings to the small statue. Right across the road is the city pillar shrine which was built under the order from King Taksin when he became the king in 1700s. There is a gold pillar inside which is devoted to the city's guardian spirit.
