Nestled just steps away from the Indiana border, Calumet Beach is one beach in Chicago that’s least populated.
The name of the beach is named as a way of tribute to the region of Calumet. This region is surrounded by several communities from the south side and the Calumet River.
The long stretch of the beach’s shoreline is an optimal place for gatherings either with friends or families. The beach is part of Calumet Park, which is a 200-acre park that houses ball fields, a playground, a boat launch, and various concession stands. Distance swimming is available only if it’s done parallel to the shoreline.
