Corniglia, Cinque Terre Overview

Corniglia is the most unique village in Cinque Terre, as it is the only one not directly by the sea. Instead, it sits on a hilltop, 100 meters (328 feet) above the Mediterranean, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline. It, also, doesn't have any harbor, which makes it difficult for tourists to reach and hence it is quieter and less crowded.

The main street, Via Fieschi, runs through the heart of Corniglia and is lined with small shops, cafés, and gelato stands. Unlike the other villages, Corniglia feels less touristy and has a more authentic local atmosphere. One of the highlights of visiting Corniglia is simply wandering through its narrow alleys and enjoying the quiet charm of the village. Main highllights include Panoramic Terrace (Belvedere Santa Maria), Church of San Pietro,  vineyards and terraced hills, Vernazza or Manarola hike, and Guvano Beach.

How to Reach

To reach Corniglia, visitors must climb the famous Lardarina Staircase, which has 377 steps leading from the train station to the village. While the climb can be tiring, the views along the way are spectacular. Alternatively, there is a shuttle bus that runs from the station to the village center for those who prefer not to walk.
