Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre Overview

Riomaggiore is the southernmost village of Cinque Terre and is famous for its steep colorful houses, scenic harbor, and dramatic cliffside views. It also serves as a gateway to the famous Via dell’Amore (Path of Love), making it a great starting point for exploring Cinque Terre. Its main street, Via Colombo, is filled with cafés, gelato shops, restaurants, and small local markets. is the first village in Cinque Terre when coming from La Spezia.

Riomaggiore is built into a steep valley, with narrow streets and stairways winding through the village. The small fishing harbor, surrounded by brightly colored buildings, is one of the most famous photo spots in Cinque Terre. At the bottom of the village, you’ll find a rocky beach with clear blue water.  In the evening, many visitors gather at the harbor or along the cliffs to watch the spectacular sunset. Riomaggiore is also known for its wine-making traditions, particularly Sciacchetrà, a sweet local wine. The village is a great place to try fresh seafood, especially anchovies, pasta, and local Ligurian dishes.
