Castillo de Almodóvar del Río is a historic castle located in the town of Almodóvar del Río, west of Córdoba. Originally established as a Roman fort, the site gained prominence in 760 AD when the Moors constructed a fortress named "al-Mudawwar," meaning "the round one," referencing the hill's shape. Throughout the Middle Ages, the castle underwent various modifications, notably during the 14th century under King Alfonso XI. In the early 20th century, Rafael Desmaissières y Farina, the 12th Count of Torralva, initiated an extensive restoration between 1901 and 1936, revitalizing the castle's grandeur. Today, it stands as a testament to its diverse historical influences, from Roman foundations to Moorish and Christian enhancements.
