Cordoba Archaeological Museum, Cordoba Overview

Cordoba Archaeological Museum is a prominent cultural institution located in the historic center of Córdoba. Housed in the Renaissance-style Palace of the Páez de Castillejo, the museum offers a comprehensive journey through the region's rich history, from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. Its extensive collection and the incorporation of an on-site archaeological site. Visitors like its museum for its well-curated exhibits and the unique opportunity to view the excavated Roman Theatre.

Established in 1867, the museum initially shared space with the Museum of Fine Arts. In 1960, it relocated to its current premises, the Palace of the Páez de Castillejo, a 16th-century Renaissance building. This historic edifice provides a fitting backdrop for the museum's diverse artifacts. A significant expansion in 2011 introduced a contemporary annex, seamlessly blending modern architecture with the original palace. During this expansion, remains of the city's Roman Theatre were uncovered beneath the museum and have since been integrated into the exhibition space, allowing visitors to explore this ancient site firsthand.
