Corredera Square, Cordoba Overview

Plaza de la Corredera is a historic rectangular square located in the heart of Córdoba. Notably, it is the only square in Andalusia designed in the traditional Castilian style, reminiscent of Madrid's Plaza Mayor. Surrounded by uniform, balconied buildings, the plaza has served various purposes over the centuries, including as a marketplace, bullfighting arena, and site for public events. Today, it is a vibrant hub featuring numerous cafés and bars, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists to relax and socialize.

The origins of Plaza de la Corredera date back to the 17th century when architect Antonio Ramós Valdés redesigned the area, completing the current structure in 1683. The square has witnessed a multitude of events, from public executions during the Inquisition to festive celebrations. In the 19th century, it housed a significant marketplace, a function that has evolved but continues to this day with various shops and eateries occupying the ground floors of the surrounding buildings.
