Juderia, Cordoba Overview

Jewish Quarter of Córdoba is a historic neighborhood located in the city's historic center, northwest of the renowned Mosque-Cathedral. This area is celebrated for its narrow, winding streets, white-washed buildings adorned with vibrant flowers, and significant landmarks that reflect the rich cultural tapestry of Jewish heritage in medieval Spain. In 1994, the Judería was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Judería flourished between the 10th and 15th centuries as a vibrant Jewish community. One of its most notable landmarks is the Sinagoga de Córdoba, constructed in 1315. This synagogue is among the few well-preserved medieval synagogues in Spain and showcases intricate Mudéjar architecture with detailed stucco work and Hebrew inscriptions. Another significant site is the Casa de Sefarad, a cultural center dedicated to preserving and promoting Sephardic Jewish heritage through various exhibits and events. Visitors can also explore the Calleja de las Flores, a picturesque alleyway adorned with colorful flower pots, offering a stunning view of the Mosque-Cathedral's bell tower.
