Roman Bridge of Cordoba, Cordoba Overview

Roman Bridge of Córdoba is a historic bridge spanning the Guadalquivir River in Córdoba. Situated near the city's historic center, it connects the area surrounding the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba to the Calahorra Tower on the opposite bank. The bridge's picturesque views, especially during sunrise and sunset, are the reason why people love visiting it. Consider visiting in the evening to experience the bridge illuminated, offering a different perspective.

Originally constructed in the early 1st century BC during the Roman period, the bridge has undergone numerous reconstructions, with significant modifications during the 8th century under Islamic rule. The current structure features 16 arches, a combination of pointed and semicircular designs, extending approximately 247 meters in length and 9 meters in width. A notable feature is the 16th-century statue of San Rafael, crafted by Bernabé Gómez del Río, positioned midway along the eastern side of the bridge. Historically, the bridge served as a vital crossing over the Guadalquivir River, remaining the city's sole bridge for almost two millennia until the mid-20th century.
