Roman Temple, Cordoba Overview

Roman Temple of Córdoba is a significant archaeological site located at the intersection of Claudio Marcelo and Capitulares streets, adjacent to the City Hall in Córdoba. Constructed during the 1st century AD, this temple exemplifies the grandeur of Roman architecture, it's known for its impressive Corinthian columns and its historical significance as a testament to Córdoba's Roman heritage. While the ruins are partially reconstructed, they offer a vivid glimpse into the city's ancient architectural grandeur.

Initiated under Emperor Claudius (41–54 AD) and completed during Emperor Domitian's reign (81–96 AD), the temple was likely dedicated to the imperial cult. It originally featured a raised podium with six free-standing Corinthian columns at the entrance, leading to the main sanctuary. In front of the temple stood the ara, or altar, where rituals were performed. The structure was part of the Provincial Forum, highlighting its importance in the civic and religious life of Roman Córdoba.
