Lying near Mount Pantokrator and overlooking the Ionian Sea lies the 'Heritage Protected' village of Corfu, known as Old Perithia. Originally constructed in the 14th century, Perithia is also sometimes known as a ghost village. Stroll through the village to discover the medieval stone houses, churches and the local restaurants.
It was once a safeguard against pirate attacks, but the growing enemy attacks made the residents gradually shift toward the coast. By the late mid-twenties, as tourism flourished in the area led to the complete abandonment of the village. However, the locals and tourists are still fond of this place for its Venetian-style houses, taverns, eight long-standing churches, the bell tower of Saint Jacob of Persia at the village entrance, and the old school building.
