Da Lat’s gleaming Golden Buddha is an iconic 80ft tall statue of the Shakyamuni avatar seated in meditation on a fully-bloomed lotus and holding a lotus bud in one hand. It is one of the eight auspicious symbols in Buddhism and a symbol of peace and prosperity. The figure is part of the Thien Vien Van Hanh Monastery, which is a major attraction in Da Lat.
The monastery premises are lined with beautiful gardens and shady trees, making it an ideal place to spend some peaceful time or take a relaxing walk. There are two shrines in the monastery. The first has two statues of a reclining Buddha and many wooden statues. The second one is the main temple that houses the praying hall. The reigning deity is a meditating Buddha similar to the one outside. The statue sits at an altar flanked by several dragon-head gargoyles. You can present your offerings at the altar.
