Marble Mountains, located just south of Da Nang, are a cluster of five marble and limestone hills dedicated to the five natural elements and are a well-known pilgrimage site. The hills are riddled with caves and grottoes, some of which house ancient Buddhist sanctuaries, pagodas, and shrines. Ascending the Marble Mountains via staircases carved into the rock offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, Da Nang City, and the coastline.
Each of the mountains is named after one of the elements: Thuy (Water), Moc (Wood), Hoa (Fire), Kim (Metal), and Tho (Earth). Thuy Son Mountain is the only one open to tourists, and it is comprised of many caves, grottoes, tunnels, and temples hemmed in by the fringes of these hills. Climb the mountains to enjoy breathtaking views stretching to the Non-Nuoc (My Khe Beach). Several pagodas and temples are scattered across the Marble Mountains, including the Linh Ung Pagoda, which features a towering white Buddha statue, and the Tam Thai Pagoda, adorned with intricate artwork and religious relics. At the base of the Marble Mountains, there's a stone sculpture village where skilled artisans carve magnificent statues, sculptures, and artworks from marble and limestone, showcasing their craftsmanship. The hills offer opportunities for exploration along nature trails, allowing visitors to discover hidden caves, interesting rock formations, and lush vegetation.
