Dar Es Salaam Zoo, situated in the Kigamboni district near the city, is a wildlife sanctuary dedicated to preserving plant and animal species. It's one of East Africa's largest zoos, offering a chance for both locals and tourists to interact with animals like monkeys, horses, donkeys, and camels up close.
The zoo is famous for its collection of animals native to Tanzania, such as giraffes, zebras, crocodiles, antelopes, tortoises, gazelles, monkeys, hyenas, lions, leopards, snakes, and many bird species. It also has a kids' zone with slides and swings and a swimming pool for children under 13. The Nguva River adds to the zoo's allure, attracting colourful birds, butterflies, and other wildlife, making it a captivating destination for all ages.
