Pearl Monument, Doha Overview
The Pearl Monument is situated on Corniche Street, just outside of Dhow Harbor. The sculpture of the fountain shows a huge open oyster holding a huge pearl in its mouth. This fountain honors Qatar's pearling heritage and makes for a great photo opportunity during the day and at night when it lights up. Qatar was once known as a master of pearl trading, June to September marked the period of pearl cultivation for divers from Qatar. However due to development of Japan and oil-trading industries this Qatari business took a backseat. The Pearl Monument, on the other hand, stands tall to narrate this tale.
