Japanese Palace Dresden, Dresden Overview
The Japanese Palace is a Baroque building located on the north bank of the Elbe River in Dresden, Germany, near the Neustadt district. Built in the 18th century, it features unique Asian-inspired architectural elements and houses the Museum of Ethnology and the Museum of Prehistory. Its is close to other historical sites and the Neustädter Markt square.
The statue of Augustus the Strong, depicted in a pose of Caesar, complete with Roman armour and riding horseback, is the popular landmark Golden Horsemen dominating this square. The Baroque-Classicistic Japanese Palace was constructed with the intention to house the King's porcelain collection. The same is validated by its chinoiserie adornments. The palace is now home to the Ethnological Museum.
