Ploce Gate, Dubrovnik Overview
The Ploce Gate is one of the most famous landmarks in Dubrovnik. Located on the eastern side of the city's walls, it serves as an important entrance to the city for centuries. It has appeared in many popular movies and tv shows, including Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Game of Thrones.
This Romanesque style gate is adorned with intricate carvings and decorative details that showcase the skill of the city's master stonemasons. The gate has an inner and outer portion, and the free-standing Revelin Fortress guards it. The inner and outer sections are joined by a wooden drawbridge and a twin-spanned stone bridge that crosses a defensive ditch. Asimon Tower, a part of the city walls complex, is located above the inner gate. The outer bridge has a wooden part that was formerly raised in the evening. Above the Ploče Gate stands a stone statue of St. Blaise, the Citys patron. This is the present-day gateway to the hotels and beaches at Ploče.
