Established in 1904 by Mahatma Gandhi, 100 acres of land is devoted to what is popularly known as the Phoenix Settlement of Durban. This settlement narrates the stories of South-African growth and the works of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The printing press from Durban's first news agency and pictures and portraits from non-violence movements, Gandhi's then home (Sarvodaya) are housed inside the Phoenix settlement.
