Arco da Vila is a notable neoclassical archway is a primary entrance to the city's historic old town. It is recognized as one of the finest examples of Italian neoclassical architecture in the Algarve. Situated near Jardim Manuel Bívar, close to Faro's marina, visitors can observe remnants of the original Moorish gateway, including a preserved horseshoe-shaped entrance from the old Muslim walls, which is unique in Portugal. The façade features a niche housing a statue of Saint Thomas Aquinas, crafted in Italy.
Commissioned by Bishop Francisco Gomes de Avelar and designed by Italian architect Francisco Xavier Fabri, it was inaugurated in 1812.
