The Finger Lakes in the state of New York is a group of 11 long and narrow lakes in the midst of a stunning and lush landscape. A steady 4 hours away from New York City, these lakes each surround an area that is historically, culturally and aesthetically significant. The lakes are all surrounded by numerous state parks, most of which feature endless trails to explore.
Some notable state parks include the Watkins Glen State Park with its 19 waterfalls and the Robert Treman and Taughannock Falls Parks A leisurely viewing of the lakes is also a popular activity to do when visiting this beautiful region with Lake Skaneateles and Lake Seneca drawing huge crowds. Lake Seneca is particularly famous for the temperature conditions that make it the top wine-producing region of the state, with over 50 wineries open for viewings. Most of these natural wonders are nominally priced or free to explore. The region is also dotted with several museums for the history buff.
