Koggala Lake, Galle Overview
Koggala is a beautiful picturesque place which is dotted with some beautiful islands and temples. One of the major attractions here is the Koggala Lake which is embellished with almost eight ecologically rich small islands which enhance the beauty of the whole experience.
Koggala Lake is one of the largest lakes of the country and is also a significant attraction in Galle. The boat ride on the lake accommodates not more than six people at one time and takes tourists through different islands, including the spice gardens, and ancient structures with beautiful wall paintings. The tour lasts for approximately two hours. Each island is unique its way from bird island to spice garden ushering you with one of the most amazing experiences set in great and magnificent surroundings.
On tour, every person is provided with bottled water and life jackets to remain safe and hydrated throughout the journey.

The Boat Tour
The next stop is the Cinnamon Island where one will get to witness the native villagers cultivating cinnamon through some natural ways. This stop will enable one to learn all about cinnamon from soil to stick. Watch the different procedures which involve peeling cinnamon sticks to topping off the experience with a fresh cup of cinnamon tea.
The last stop of the Koggala Lake tour is the Spice Island which is on the banks of the lake. Here, one is guided through the fascinating procedure of producing and cultivating the different spices. One can also try out the authentic fish massage; however, that would be at an additional cost of SLR 500.
