Galway Bay is a bay on the west coast of Ireland, between County Galway in the province of Connacht to the north and the Burren in County Clare in the province of Munster. Visitors can discover numerous small cliffs, historic landmarks along the bay with breathtaking views along the rocky terrain and heritage.
The bay takes visitors on a memorable and awe-inspiring experience, through picturesque landscapes, charming landmarks, and majestic coastal views along the inlet of the Atlantic Ocean. The 50 km long and 30 km wide bay is surrounded by Galway City in the west, County of Galway in the north, Burren area of North County Clare in the south and at its mouth is the Aran Islands (Inis Mor, Inis Meann and Inisheer). The bay is dotted with many small picturesque villages like Spiddal, Barna, Oranmore, Claddagh, Galway city, Salthill, Kinvara, Ballyvaughan and the Burren Area, surrounded by rocky terrains and monuments. One even enjoy scenic rides along the coastline starting from Liscannor with views of Cliffs of Moher, leading to Ballyvaughan through white sand beaches and back to Galway City. In between, one also can visit Aillwee underground caves at Burren, or the fishing town of Kinvara to enjoy famous Irish delicacies along the coast. You can relax and enjoy the stunning visuals with a glass of fine wine or a cup of tea. The bay also has a plethora of shops selling different art merchandise and memoirs. Visitors can also enjoy activities like sailing tours along Cliffs of Moher, water sports like snorkeling, surfing etc, fishing or could enjoy golf at Galway Bay Golf Resort along the coast.
Other important objective information : The bay is wheelchair and stroller accessible through special pathways. There are some public parking spaces available at some places. Trains, taxis and buses provide easy access to the bay.
