Mavrobara Turtle Lake is a beautiful lake that houses rare, endangered species of water turtles. These species of turtles (Emys Orbicularis and Mauremys Caspica) find refuge in this lake. The lake is not easily accessible, and one can either walk for 3 km or rent mountain bike. There are dense olive groves and pine forests along both tracks, and plenty of 400-year-old trees are also in the area.
There are also small benches in the area where people can sit and enjoy the land with such a rich ecosystem. The view on the way to the lake is magical, as people can view Mount Olympus in the West and Mount Athos in the East on days of clear weather. Its rich ecosystem has an innumerable variety of plants around the Lake. One can even listen to a range of nature’s sounds on the way to the Lake.
