CRETAquarium Thalassokosmos, Heraklion Overview
CRETAquarium is an amazing experience of witnessing the giant to the small sea creatures of the Mediterranean, altogether, in a large aquarium. The aquarium has 61 different-sized tanks that contain over 2500 species of marine biodiversity, audio, and video presentations available, VR glasses for exploring the aquatic ecosystem, and special “touch pools” for children.
You can observe the diverse sea creatures exotic to Crete, like the Caretta turtles, sand sharks, scorpion fish, and other marine life as big as sharks and jellyfish to the smaller ones like seahorses, shell side, and a variety of tropical fish. A special mobile-like device is available at 3 Euros for audio-guided aquarium exploration. It comes with nine different language options. A 19-minute ride from Heraklion, the CRETAquarium is Greece’s largest aquarium that offers educational, cultural and recreational aspects all at once.
