Daauw, Huay Xai Overview

Daauw is a community centre located on the banks of the Mekong River in the town of Huay Xai in Laos. It is a grassroots initiative run by Project Kajsiab, which runs several projects at the centre aimed at promoting responsible tourism to support the local ethnic communities. Tourists visiting Huay Xai should visit Daauw to take part in their exciting workshops, handicraft shops, and to understand the community.

Daauw History & Significance

Kajsiab Initiative is a small grassroots initiative started by a group of people a few years ago to promote education, healthcare and women empowerment among Hmong and other communities living in the region.

Activities at Daauw

Daauw offers several things to its visitors. You can dine at their restaurant, which overlooks the Mekong to taste the local cuisine. You can also stay here at their simple yet elegant bungalows that include a hammock, balcony and a private bathroom.

You can shop at the onsite Women Empowerment Shop, where hand-made products are sold, created by local village women. Visitors can also volunteer to impart skills in exchange for a community experience. There are also cooking classes and different workshops, ranging from weaving to knitting for visitors.
