Situated on a hill above Hvar town, Fortica Fortress is a popular attraction offering breathtaking views of the Pakleni Islands and surrounding bay. Also popular as the Spanish Fortress, the fortress was built in 1579 and holds exquisite historical exhibits and architectural antiquities.
The four circular bastions, gunpowder store, water cisterns, crenellated tower and a huge tower make the structure of the fortress unique and worth exploring. There is a prison and a St. John’s chapel depicting the bastion's time of the 16th century. A small museum exhibiting the Amphora collection is housed in the fortress.
Other useful objective information : There is no parking available on the fortress, however it is accessible by foot or taxi. Guided tours are available on the fortress for a detailed voyage.
