Suryanelli in Kerala is a resort town in the Chinnakanal village in Idukki district. Located at a distance of around 50 km from Munnar, Suryanelli is famous for its tea and cardamom plantations and stunning vistas of mountains, waterfalls and sunrise. The forest here is home to many endangered animals, including Nilgiri Marten, a native here.
Suryanelli in Tamil roughly translates to "no sunlight." Very apt, since the place, sitting at the height of 1,412 m from sea level, is densely covered by forest. The town, though is lesser-known and shadowed by the fame of much more popular Munnar, nature-lovers and those craving to see a place off the beaten track find heaven here.
Now, with the boom of tourism here, quite a few resorts and hotels have sprung up, offering a traveller the real experience of staying in nature's lap. The village receives very high rainfall every year, in the months of June-September. There are many near-by places that one can visit while staying here.
